I’m very excited to come together again at the Toronto Yoga Conference 2017! This is such an amazing gathering of beings. So much happens in life. We run around so busy all of the time. It is comforting to know that, as yogis, we have each other. We have this event that brings out the best in all of us.
In yoga, we share a similar dedication and life trajectory to grow ourselves, learn, and study. We sense the urgency now in our lives and on the planet to act, to attend to our heart, to purify ourselves, and to bring our unique gifts into action through teaching and practicing yoga. The yoga I founded, called Ashaya Yoga, which means ‘abode of the heart’, is not just teaching yoga. Ashaya Yoga is about the transmission of consciousness. In Ashaya, we speak to the heart of each student which triggers an awakening of consciousness and a remembrance of the deeper meaning and preciousness of life.
Our daily practice is the golden thread that unites our hearts no matter how much time goes by and no matter how consistent or inconsistent our practice has been. It’s natural to fall off your practice occasionally. That is never a problem. All you need to do is start again. You will pick up where you left off. So never worry if you haven’t been consistent. Consistency in practice grows as your heart opens and remembers why you are here. Regularity of practice begins when you remember the urgency of love and light that is needed in the world today. Remember, too, that your practice effects the whole world, not just yourself.
The teaching I really want to offer you today is that whenever you practice yoga or meditation, grace is there. Grace is the revelatory power of the universe that reveals your true nature which is joy. Like a bee to pollen, grace is always attracted to practices. When you practice, you are choosing to love yourself. When you do that, the universe automatically gives you love. You are choosing to surrender to the universe. You are choosing to let go of what conceals your heart. You are choosing to surrender again and again to the blessing of grace.
When you practice, the life force Shakti descends upon you. This is called Shaktipata – the cascading river of blessings that flows down from the heavens to help refocus you and shift your desires from unconscious, self-destructive habits to healthier habits in service of the highest.
I invite you to join me in my classes or workshops at the conference to deepen your practice and feel the presence of grace. Enjoy your practices!
With Blessings of Love and Light,
